Flights to Vietnam

There are plenty of direct flights from airports in Australia including Sydney and Melbourne to some of Vietnam’s main airports including Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is easily accessible from Australia, and there are many flights available with transits as well. Air Asia X, Jetstar, Thai Airways, and Malaysia Airlines are some of the main flights that travel from Australia to Vietnam.

Visa requirements

Travellers can either apply for a 30-day tourist visa or a 30-day single entry visa through the E-visa option. Visit vietnamvisa.govt.vn for more information or to apply for the online E-visa. When visiting Vietnam, it is mandatory that your passport is valid for 6 months from the date of arrival. However, proof of vaccination and COVID-19 tests are no longer required.

Travel Insurance

Before travelling to Vietnam it is recommended that you get appropriate travel insurance. If you already have a travel insurance policy make sure to check what cover it provides for coronavirus-related events.

Climate & Weather 

Vietnam has two monsoons; winter and summer are alternate which has a great influence on the difference in weather between the north and south. October to April has the least precipitation and is favorable for tourism. January to August is the best time for vacations as the temperature is likely to be stable at 30°C with minimum rain. Whereas, in the South, the average temperature ranges from 25 - 30 ° C all year making November to May ideal for vacationing when there’s minimum rain.

Currency

The currency used in Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong, however, US dollars can also be directly used for some restaurants and hotels. You can check the Vietnam exchange rate by visiting xe.com. Most major currencies can be exchanged in Vietnam hotels, banks, airports, and exchange stalls. Debit and Credit cards are also widely accepted in the country, especially in shopping malls and hotels.

From the colonial architecture of Ho Chi Minh City top to the hustle and bustle of Hanoi to the azure waters of Nha Trag, Vietnam has something for everybody.

Vietnam is highly multicultural, with people that greatly value humility, modesty, and restraint. Traditions in Vietnam date back thousands of years and are instilled with a respect for the sea, land, and people. The country also has an interesting cuisine where they place much importance on different flavours and ingredients. Their dishes feature simple elements that are tasty and colourful which often include a combination of sweet, salty, spicy, sour, and bitter flavours. Meals mainly emphasise rice, fish, meat, and vegetables, with cooking methods often involving steaming or stir-frying.
