Minneriya National Park, Sri Lanka
Minneriya National Park, also known as Minneriya safari park is one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent national parks. Located in the North Central province, it was originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938 and plays a vital role in protecting both surrounding wildlife and the historical catchment of the Minneriya tank which was built by the Ancient King Mahasen in the 3rd century AD. The marshes, evergreen forests, scrub plains, along with rocky outcrops collectively make up the park's topography all while providing a diverse range of habitats for various animals.
